Now Hiring - Director of Development and Inspectional Services/Town Planner in Leicester, MA

The Town of Leicester is seeking an experienced, motivated community development professional to serve as its Director of Development and Inspectional Services/Town Planner. This position is responsible for professional, technical, and administrative work overseeing the Department of Inspectional Services (DIS), which includes planning, zoning, building, conservation, a local water body commission, and code enforcement. The position oversees the administration of the Town's Zoning Bylaws, Subdivision Rules and Regulations, evaluation of subdivision plans, the preparation of proposed amendments to the Zoning Bylaw, and the Master Plan. This position provides administrative and technical assistance to town boards, including an elected Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Conservation Commission. Attendance at night meetings will be required.

As of March 2023, the DIS Department has three full-time staff members, including two administrative assistants and a Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer. As part of the FY23 budget, the town funded the creation of an Assistant Town Planner position. The next Town Planner will have the opportunity to develop and hire for this newly created role with the goal of improving department operations and service to the public.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field; a minimum of five years of land use or planning experience, preferably in local government; with minimum three years in supervisory capacity, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

The salary range for this position is $66,224 to $103,690 with a median of $83,863. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to [please apply online].
